Typical Recovery Timeline
Mild algae — light green, still somewhat visible through the water: 1 to 2 service visits over 3 to 5 days. In most cases a mildly green pool can be clear within a few days with proper treatment and filtration.
Moderate algae — water is green but you can still see the first step or shallow end: 2 to 3 service visits over 5 to 7 days. More treatment is required, the filter needs more frequent cleaning, and brushing is more intensive.
Severe algae — pool is dark green or black, completely opaque: 3 or more service visits over 7 to 14 days, sometimes longer. In severe cases the pool may need to be partially or fully drained and cleaned before chemical treatment can be fully effective.
What Happens During Recovery
Green pool recovery requires an initial assessment of current chemistry, pH and alkalinity adjustment so treatment works as effectively as possible, a treatment to kill active algae, thorough brushing of all pool surfaces, continuous filtration to remove dead algae from the water, filter cleaning as it loads up, and return visits to retest and re-treat as needed until the water is fully clear.
