Green Pool Recovery

A green pool is usually a symptom, not the complete problem. Algae can take hold after sanitizer loss, poor circulation, filter trouble, heavy debris, warm weather or chemistry that prevents chlorine from working effectively.

How green pool recovery works

1. Inspect the pool and equipment. We look at water color, visibility, debris, circulation and filter condition.
2. Test the water. Treatment depends on more than chlorine. pH and conditioner can strongly affect the recovery process.
3. Remove debris and brush surfaces. Organic material consumes sanitizer and algae can cling to walls, steps and features.
4. Treat and circulate. Chemicals are added based on the pool condition, then the pump and filter must run correctly.
5. Clean the filter and follow up. Dead algae and debris load the filter. Some pools need more than one visit.

How long does recovery take?

There is no honest one-time answer for every pool. A lightly green pool with working equipment may improve quickly. A dark green pool with heavy debris, poor visibility or a failed circulation system can require several treatments, filter cleanings and follow-up visits.

Why adding more chlorine may not fix it

Chlorine can be consumed by algae and debris, but it can also work poorly when pH is too high or conditioner is excessive. If the filter is clogged or the pump is not circulating water, treatment cannot move through the pool effectively.

Recovery may expose other problems

Once the water begins clearing, hidden staining, surface damage, broken fittings or equipment problems may become visible. Those conditions are evaluated separately from algae treatment.
