Better Flow • Better Filtration

Pool Filter Cleaning

Periodic filter service helps the circulation system move water and capture fine debris more effectively.

A pool filter collects dirt, algae and fine debris that cannot be removed by skimming alone. As the filter loads up, pressure may rise and water flow may fall. Cleaning it at the right interval supports circulation, sanitizer distribution and water clarity.

Signs a filter may need attention

  • Filter pressure is higher than the clean starting pressure
  • Return flow feels weaker than normal
  • The pool stays cloudy even when chemistry is in range
  • The pump struggles to maintain circulation
  • The system recently handled algae, heavy wind or major debris
  • The normal cleaning interval has been reached

Cartridge filters

Cartridge elements are removed, inspected and washed. Torn fabric, broken bands, collapsed pleats or damaged end caps may mean replacement is needed. Cleaning cannot restore a cartridge that has reached the end of its useful life.

D.E. filters

Diatomaceous earth filters use internal grids coated with filter media. A complete cleaning may involve opening the tank, washing the grids, checking for visible damage, reassembling the system and adding the correct amount of media.

Sand filters

Sand filters are normally maintained by backwashing, but they can still develop channeling, valve problems or old media that no longer filters effectively. The correct service depends on the filter and its symptoms.

How often should a filter be cleaned?

There is no single schedule for every pool. Filter size, pool use, landscaping, wind, algae events and equipment runtime all matter. Many residential filters need a complete cleaning one to three times per year, while demanding conditions may require more frequent service.

Filter cleaning is not a repair

If we find damaged grids, cartridges, manifolds, clamps, gauges, air-relief parts or valves, replacement is separate from the cleaning service and requires authorization under the service agreement.

Filter questions

Will filter cleaning fix cloudy water?

It can help when restricted filtration is part of the problem, but cloudy water may also involve chemistry, algae, circulation or damaged filter components.

Can you clean a filter after a green pool treatment?

Yes. Algae recovery often loads the filter quickly, so cleaning may be an important part of the recovery process.
